Mark G. Ackermann has more than forty years of experience in non-profit management. His background includes senior management positions in healthcare, education, and foundations.
Mr. Ackermann served in various senior management positions at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center for twenty five years, beginning his career there in the Development Office. He worked his way through the ranks and ultimately became the Chief Administrative Officer of the healthcare system which included six hospitals and four nursing homes. He was also President of the St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center Foundation.
From 2007 through 2009, Mr. Ackermann worked as Executive Director of the Office of the Papal Visit for the Archdiocese of New York. In this capacity he was responsible for all aspects of the Pastoral Visit to The Archdiocese of New York by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI in April 2008. He coordinated the planning and execution of eight major events in and around the City of New York during the Holy Father’s visit. Mr. Ackermann coordinated all federal, state, and city agencies involved in the visit as well as the various offices of the Vatican and the Archdiocese of New York. In 2015, he assisted the Holy See Mission in the planning and execution of Pope Francis’s visit to New York and coordinated the Time/Fortune Global Forum at the Vatican in 2016.
Mr. Ackermann also served as the President and CEO of Lighthouse International and Executive Vice President and COO of Lighthouse Guild International, a $1.2 billion nonprofit organization. Lighthouse Guild is the nation’s leading not-for-profit vision and healthcare organization, with a long-standing heritage of addressing the needs of people who are blind or visually impaired as well as those with multiple disabilities or chronic medical conditions. Lighthouse Guild was formed as a result of a merger which Mr. Ackermann was influential in accomplishing between Lighthouse International and Jewish Guild Healthcare for the Blind.
Mr. Ackermann’s career also included serving as the first CEO of the Catholic Community Foundation of Long Island. The Foundation conducted a study for a major capital campaign to include all 138 parishes and the major ministries of the Diocese. As part of this campaign, it began working with a number of parishes on local appeals, and launched a campaign to revitalize Catholic Schools in the Diocese, as well as an effort for the Hispanic Ministry.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Catholic University of America and a Master of Science Degree in Healthcare Management from New York University. He served as an Adjunct Professor at Long Island University, the Graduate School of Management and Urban Professions of the New School University; an Internship Coordinator for the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of New York University, New York; and a Visiting Lecturer at Drew University, Madison, NJ.
Mr. Ackermann currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the United States Association of Blind Athletes (A member organization of the Team USA Paralympic Organization). He also serves as a board member of the Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation. Additionally, he has been on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Justice and Peace in the Vatican and is a special advisor to the Path to Peace Foundation at the Vatican’s Mission to the United Nations. He is the former Chairman of the Macular Disease Alliance International, London, England; the Vision Serve Alliance, St. Louis, MO; and the Howell, NJ Education Foundation.
Mr. Ackermann and his wife of 44 years, June, live in Freehold, NJ and have six children and are anticipating the birth of the ninth grandchild.Tell people about your experienced consultants.
